Welcome to Mikkelsen’s Pastry Shop
Mikkelsen’s Pastry Shop was established in 2000 by Paw & Elizabeth Mikkelsen. Paw grew up in a pastry shop in Denmark which was owned by his parents. He came to the US and met his wife Elizabeth in the late 80’s. Elizabeth was born in England and moved to Ithaca, New York as a child, where she went on to attend Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. Together, Paw and Elizabeth share over 60 years of work experience with some of the most reputable names in the hospitality industry, including The Plaza Hotel in NYC, The Ritz-Carlton (Naples and Boston), the Four Seasons Hotels (Boston and Houston), and others.
What Makes Mikkelsen’s Pastry Shop Unique in Naples?
We handle wholesale and retail clients, particularly the many high-end clubs and hotels that have become a part of Naples’ luxurious atmosphere. Because of the large number of wholesale customers we handle, Mikkelsen’s Pastry Shop is able to offer a wide variety of custom-made desserts to our retail customers.
Our commercial location allows us to operate differently than your typical pastry shop or bakery. We always have individual desserts, mini pastries, cookies, and specific breakfast items available while full-size desserts such as cakes and large tarts are handled on a pre-order basis.
Why Do We Do This?
Our desserts are all made here on site from real ingredients. Your cake or tart is made to your specifications. You tell us the size, the flavor of cake, and the filling. With such luscious choices as strawberry Grand Marnier, old fashioned chocolate cake with raspberry mousse, vanilla sponge with lemon curd and fresh blueberries, we want you to design your ideal cake.
The icings are just as decadent, with options such as chocolate ganache, fresh whipped cream, or European style butter cream. For your tart selections, you may want fresh raspberries added to your key lime pie or a lattice top on your strawberry rhubarb tart. You make the final decisions!
How did the retail shop come to be?
We started as a whole-sale operation because of Paw and Elizabeth’s hotel backgrounds. They knew how to produce high quality, made-from-scratch desserts in large volumes. Mikkelsen’s expanded into the retail business due to high demand for their delectable pastries.
When they decided to also offer retail service, they wanted to continue in the tradition of uncompromising quality found at the Ritz and Four Seasons with the warm and friendly atmosphere of your local, family-owned, European pastry shop.
The Mikkelsen’s employ a large and extremely talented staff of loyal and hard-working individuals. Many of the team members have been with Paw and Elizabeth for over ten years and take great pride in the quality of work they produce, from the scratch-made tart doughs to the hand-sculpted decorations for specialty cakes. They all work together as an amazing team and treat each other and their customers like family.
